An International Congress on Leishmania & Leishmaniasis

Why ?  Cutaneous, mucocutaneous and visceral leishmaniases are serious diseases, which are vector-borne and wide-spread in more than 90 countries, putting 350 million population at risk. WHO estimates an annual incidence of 2 million and a total of 12 million current cases. The causative agents are various species of trypanosomatid protozoa in the genus of Leishmania, which are excellent models for aspects of laboratory studied in cell/molecular biology, biochemistry, immunology of host-parasite interactions.

Who ? Anyone interested in Leishmania and leishmaniasis is welcome to participate, including individuals of private and public academic institutions, charitable organizations, advocacy groups, government officials/ representatives, for-profit private sectors and their friends/affiliates.

 When/where ? Every four years preferably in a country endemic to leishmaniasis.

What ? Bring laboratory researchers and field workers from all disciplinary areas together for sharing new discoveries and exchange of new ideas. Provide opportunities of international collaboration, industrial participation, charitable donation and training of the next generation.

1.     Spain, Bangladesh and Iran are ranked in that order as the organizer for WL6 in 2017.

·  Congratulations to all for bringing us toward a successful WL6-2017!

·  We are most grateful to all applicants for their patience to revise applications by submitting missing information as well as to the SC members for their invaluable contributions to the evaluation of the applications. Thanks are due especially to new SC members who responded expediently on very short notice.

·  The ranking as stated is based completely on the scores provided by the SC members according to multiple criteria listed. Please refer to the list of the contributing SC members and the tabulated summary scores with anonymous evaluative comments.

·  All applications are accepted with variable enthusiasms for different criteria. Priority goes accordingly to Spain with the highest scores to organize WL6. Bangladesh and Iran are designated in that order as the back-up in the event that Spain be unable to organize WL6 due to the development of unforeseen events beyond their control.

·  Details of WL6 operation will be finalized according to the website-posted WL recommendations at the time of site visit.

2.     We would like to hear from all leishmaniacs/applicants for their views on WL6 and WL.
